HealthSciences Institute

HealthSciences Institute is a multidisciplinary collaborative and health care certification, development, and resource organization founded in Minneapolis in 2003. HealthSciences maintains an advisory board of subject-matter experts representing a number of health care disciplines, industries, and learning institutions.

HealthSciences offers population health improvement, disease management and health behavior change thought leadership--combined with organization development, performance improvement, competency development and change management expertise-–to support improved consumer, quality and cost outcomes.

A major focus of our work is developing a new generation of health coaching and behavior change facilitation solutions adapted from the fields of behavioral medicine and health psychology to promote healthy behavior choices, treatment adherence and persistence, disease self-management, and quality of life. Our partnerships with health care centers of excellence and leading health care solution providers ensure thought leadership and innovative solutions to the many human and financial challenges of chronic care.

HealthSciences supports a variety of health care policy, research, education, and product development initiatives. In 2003, HealthSciences funded a national chronic care competency modeling study that led to the development of the first consumer-centered, multidisciplinary chronic care competency model and the first chronic care professional certification program in 2004.

In 2006, HealthSciences led an initiative focused on physician leadership, physician practice performance improvement, and health care systems redesign.

In 2007 through 2008, we are partnering with public and private aging and long-term care organizations to develop the first community-based competency development program for front-line caregivers, home and community-based professionals, and volunteers serving older adults. The evidence-based, multidisciplinary Senior Health Support (SHS) certification program will promote senior enablement, independence, and dignity--and health promotion and chronic disease management.

As a mission-driven organization, HealthSciences provides technical assistance to not-for-profit community organizations, as well as financial assistance and learning support to the students who will become tomorrow's health care leaders and change agents.

In 2006, HealthSciences Institute relocated to Chicago, Illinois.
