Nationwide Better Health Study Documents Impact of Evidence-Based Health Coaching ProgramA study documenting the effectiveness of Nationwide BetterHealth's Lifestyle Health Coaching Program was recently published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. An independent, third-party, randomized clinical study, conducted by Vanderbilt University evaluated Nationwide Better Health's LIfestyle coaching program. The Nationwide program reduced heart attack risk by 23% compared to subjects in the low-level intervention program who experienced a 4% increase in heart attack risk. Dr. Neil Gordon, Medical Director of Nationwide Better Health attributes the program's success to the use of structured web-based protocols for member support, evidence-based care medical care protocols, and member behavior change action planning components. Members in the program also have access to a host of print and audio patient education resources, customized to member needs. This follows a 2008 study published in the journal Disease Management demonstrating statistically significant improvements in member health behaviors and quality of life, resulting in a $7,402,578 cost avoidance for 1289 members enrolled in the Nationwide Better Health disease management program. Kimberly Tawney, Senior Clinical Consultant, Health Program Management, cited the delivery and integration of the spectrum of seamless health coaching and disease management support solutions, as well a comprehensive nurse development program that includes onsite training, combined with CCP certification, as key factors in their program's success. The Nationwide Better Health disease management program is a CCP staff-accredited program.
