Two More SCA Prevention Sessions Added for 2009

Two more Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Prevention Programs have been scheduled for 2009. The next session will be held in Washington, DC at the Washington Grand Hyatt on May 2nd and 3rd, followed by a New York City session on August 8th and 9th. A San Francisco session held on February 8th and 9th was attended by over 200 nurses, advanced practice nurses, and cardiologists. SCA Prevention is an innovative program designed to prepare cardiology clinics and hospitals to optimize quality care and performance outcomes for patients with heart failure (HF). The program combines presentations on evidence-based guidelines for HF, care improvement pathways and protocols, clinic and hospital case studies in improvement, and a half-day work session in which participants plan for local improvement implementation using SCA Prevention implementation tools, as well as staff and patient education resources. HealthSciences Institute has assisted in the design and development of the SCA Prevention program and improvement implementation protocols and tools. Dr. Blake Andersen, President & CEO of HealthSciences Institute facilitates the half-day work session with Gregg Fonarow, MD, SCA Program Chair and associate chief of cardiology at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center. The SCA Prevention program is sponsored by Medtronic.
